Earth and Atmospheric Science (EATS)

Offered by the Department of Earth and Space Science and Engineering, the program provides instruction in Earth System Science with three areas of specialization, namely Atmospheric Science, Geomatics Science and Space Science. Earth System Science topics common to all three areas include the structure and dynamics of the deep interior, motions in the fluid outer core and the origin and maintenance of the main magnetic field, convective motions in the solid mantle and surface plate tectonics, rotational dynamics of the Earth and space geodynamics.

The EATS program core is defined as (19 credits): LE/ESSE 2030 3.00; LE/ESSE 2470 3.00 or LE/CIVL 2210 3.00; LE/EECS 2501 1.00; SC/MATH 1025 3.00; SC/MATH 2015 3.00;SC/MATH 2271 3.00; SC/PHYS 2020 3.00.

STANDING REQUIREMENTS

A minimum overall grade point average of 4.00 (C ) is required in order to be eligible to graduate with a BSc degree (bachelor program).

Honours Major BSc

An Honours Major in earth and atmospheric science may be combined with an Honours Major in another subject area in an Honours Double Major BSc degree program, or with an Honours Minor in another subject area in an Honours Major/Minor BSc degree program. Possible subject combinations are listed under Undergraduate Degree Programs in the Lassonde School of Engineering Undergraduate Degree and Certificate Programs section. Further information on course selection for various Honours Double Major programs is detailed in the departmental handbook. Students should consult with a departmental advisor to plan their studies in order to meet the requirements for both majors and their prerequisites. Currently, this degree is available for the Atmospheric Science stream.
